Technology Back to School 18-19

MPSIT welcomes new staff and returning staff for a great year!

We hope that new staff enjoyed learning about the technology MPS  has to offer during New Teacher Orientation. There is a Google Slide containing all of the technology questions and "how to's" here, or at the navigation on the left hand side of the page, titled "New Teacher Info"
Returning staff - reviewing this Slide set might be a healthy reminder if anything was forgotten over summer! 
New staff - it is highly recommended you review the New Teach Info Section
Also note - there are several detailed and in-depth general help articles in the left hand navigation including copiers, Google, Pearson, AESOP, Clever, etc.


1: The Helpdesk is still active and better than ever:
  • Doing a work order. (link found on > staff resources > work order) or on the left side navigation of this page.
  • by calling x4357 from your classroom phone.
  • emailing
  • MHS has their own helpdesk at x1836
  • ARJH has their own helpdesk at x2022
2: 1:1 Student Laptop Handouts have occurred for Secondary.
  • MHS: Students may visit the helpdesk in room A150
  • ARJH Students may visit the AR Helpdesk in room 133
  • Elementary Schools: Laptops will be released by tech as works out the remaining issues with the laptops. We are working hard, we promise!
3: Copy restrictions are in effect again this year; In short - each teacher will be allowed a 500$ budget (250$ per semester) yearly budget for copies. 
A few facts about the copy restrictions:
  • Average teacher cost was only 228$ for the entire 17-18 year.
  • 500$ per year is enough for 5,000 B&W copies per months of school!
  • note that Color is 10x more expensive than B&W - use color sparingly to stretch your budget!!
  • You can check your budget by logging into a copier and selecting "Secure Print."  You budget will be beneath the "SELECT PRINT QUEUE" heading.
  • Keep in mind that a double sided copy is TWO copies.
  • Semester 1 Budget will roll to Semester 2; but it doesn't transfer year to year.
4: SuccessMaker will NOT be available this year:
 SuccessMaker has not been renewed. The district has purchased Study Island and EnvisionMath to be more effective. SM has been removed from the Clever Portal for Teachers and Students.

Speaking of Clever - is the link. New teachers: EmployeeID for username; default password is muskogeeroughers  . It will ask you to change the password.
We have added PowerSchool link for Staff. Once you login, it will ask for your PS username and password, then the SSO will be setup.

April 12-13 PowerSchool Outage Notes

On April 12-13 MPS PowerSchool experienced a significant outage spanning the majority of two days.
This outage was caused by different versions of the SIF (School Interoperability Framework) software running on different PowerSchool nodes. Typically updates are seamless and are done in a top-down fashion, however for whatever reason this one was not seamless and caused configuration issues.
SIF is a very powerful framework tool that allows for Automatic Data Flows from PowerSchool to other MPS Systems, like Destiny, RoutePlanner, SchoolMessenger, and other programs. 
One of the SIF agents had a bad password for authentication against the PowerSchool database. SIF was trying to connect a few times a second, eventually the database thought it was being attacked and it shut itself down and went in to a safe mode. 
After a few hours of logging and analyzing PS node traffic we were able to find which SIF node was malfunctioning and we removed it from the node cluster.
As of 10:30am 4/13/17 PowerSchool appears to be working for most user needs.
There is still a part of PowerSchool Administration that is not working right and will take more time to troubleshoot, but this is used be only a couple people.
At this time it does appear to be OK for teachers and administrators to use PowerSchool.

Technology Training - November 21st

Hello All: 
Technology would like to offer a non-mandatory professional development session on November 21st at Muskogee High School A-Unit.
We will be offering training on the Google Suite, Chromebooks, Employee Service Portal sign up, School Website, Elementary Gradebook, and even general/bring your own questions.
Each session will be ran twice, one at 9am and again at 11am
This offering is completely volunteer and is by no means required or mandatory; we just want offer another opportunity for training.
