Creating a Google Classroom
Click on waffle button
Click “More”
Click “Classroom”
Click the “Plus Sign” button near the top right-hand corner of the screen
Click “Create Class”
Sharing your Google Classroom with Students
You need to share your completely unique class code with your students. You can find this code in two different places:
Click the “Stream” tab and it is located on the left-hand side of the screen
Click the “Students” tab and it is located in the center of the page
Creating a Question
Questions can be used as discussion topics for your students or to take a poll.
Click the “Stream” tab
Click the round “Plus Sign” located in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen
Click “Create Question”
Give your question a title, instructions (optional), and choose a due date.
By clicking the date due on this screen, you can use a ‘date picker.’ You can also choose a precise time the question must be answered by.
The bottom portion of this box gives you options to attach a file to your question.
You can either upload a file from your computer or choose a file located on your google drive. You can attach as many files as you like.
You may also attach a YouTube video for your students to view.
The last option lets you attach a website link to your question.
You can ask this question to more than one class. Just click the dropdown menu that has your class title, and check the box next to the other classes you would like to have the assignment.
You can also choose what type of answer the student will provide to your question (Short answer or multiple choice)
Short answer:
You have an option for students to be able to reply to each other (like a discussion board)
There is also an option that allows a student to edit their answer.
Multiple choice:
You have an option to let students see the class summary
You can have as many possible options as you would like.
Rearrange questions by hovering over desired question and clicking the gray icon that appears to the left of the question and dragging with your mouse.
Once you are done, click “Ask.”
You can also hit the drop down menu next to this button that lets you schedule the question for a time in the future or save the question as a draft.
Creating An Assignment
Click the “Stream” tab
Click the round “Plus Sign” located in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen
Click “Create Assignment”
Give your assignment a title, instructions (optional), and choose a due date.
By clicking the date due on this screen, you can use a ‘date picker.’ You can also choose a precise time the assignment is due.
The bottom portion of this box gives you options to attach a file to your assignment. This will likely contain all of the questions you want your students to answer.
You can either upload a file from your computer or choose a file located on your google drive. You can attach as many files as you like.
Once you attach a file, you can choose how the student may interact with the document (Students can view the file, students can edit the file, or make a copy for each student)
You may also attach a YouTube video for your students to view.
The last option lets you attach a website link to your assignment.
You can give this assignment to more than one class. Just click the dropdown menu that has your class title, and check the box next to the other classes you would like to have the assignment.

Click “Create Announcement”

Other Classroom Features
Students Tab
View your unique class code to share with your students. They use this code to join your class.
Invite students
Search for a student’s name. Check the box next to their name and click invite. This should only be used when a student does not use your class code to join.
View a list of all your students
You can click the “Mail” icon next to their name to send them an email.
You can also check the box next to the word “Students” to select them all.
If you have more than one student selected, you can click “Actions” that lets you remove selected students, email them, or mute them. Muting them disallows them from posting in your classroom.
Choose who can comment on your class
“Students can post and comment” selected by default. Click this to have the option to change it.
About Tab
Edit the title, description, and room number for your class.
Invite another teacher to be part of the class. They will be able to create assignments, questions, and announcements just like the primary teacher.
Add materials or instructions for the overall class, such as a syllabus, a grading policy, or classroom rules.
